The City of Goshen Water and Sewer Department will be installing a sewer tap at 412 & 414 N. Riverside St. between Division St and Wilkinson St. The work will require excavation of the road, with a trench that will be approximately 14 feet in depth.
For the safety of the work crews and the public, the city will close N. Riverside St. between Division St. and Wilkinson St to traffic starting at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, 05/28/2024. The road will reopen for traffic on Friday evening 05/31/2024.
All City Offices will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday.
Additionally, all trash and recycling services will be delayed by one day next week due to the holiday. Normal service will resume on Monday, June 3. The schedule for the week of May 27 is below:
Residents with normal pickup on Monday will have service Tuesday, May 28.
Residents with normal pickup on Tuesday will have service Wednesday, May 29.
Residents with normal pickup on Wednesday will have service Thursday, May 30.
Residents with normal pickup on Thursday will have service Friday, May 31.
Residents with normal pickup on Friday will have service Saturday, June 1.
The monthly brush pickup will begin on the week of May 28, 2024.
During scheduled brush collections, the Street Department will make only one pass through the city to pick up brush. Please have your brush by the front curb, but not in the street, by that first day in the morning at 7 a.m. Brush will not be picked up in alleys. The piles of brush should be trash-free. Crews cannot access the piles if blocked by vehicles.
The Goshen VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars), American Legion, and DAV (Disabled American Veterans) are once again hosting the Annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27, 2024.
The event will start with a brief service at Powerhouse Park at 8:45 a.m. From there, another service will be at the Elkhart County Courthouse (in Goshen) at 9 a.m. The parade will kick off at 10:15 a.m. at Main and Jefferson Streets and end at Oakridge Cemetery. There, a ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., with dignitaries and the Parade Marshal placing wreaths.
The parade will start at Main and Jefferson and travel Northbound on Main Street to Pike Street. From there, it will travel west on Pike Street to 1st Street, turning Northbound again to Oakridge Cemetery.
This year’s Parade Marshall will be Joseph Farrell, USAF, MSgt (ret), a Gulf War veteran, and the speaker at Oakridge Cemetery will be Chad (Michael) McKeown, a Cpl, US Army, Iraq.
All ceremonies and events are free and open to the public. Anyone wanting to be in the parade can fill out an application. Applications can be picked up at the Goshen VFW, Goshen DAV, and the Goshen Police Department. They must be completed and turned in by the end of business on Friday, May 24th, 2024.
The approaches to Wilden Avenue on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd streets to Wilden Avenue will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21 as Reith-Riley Construction Co. finishes up final construction items on Wilden Avenue. Work should only last one day, and Wilden Avenue will continue to remain open.
The City of Goshen Parks and Recreation Department will kick off a summer full of family-fun events and programming with a free showing of The Little Mermaid (2023) at Shanklin Park on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 7 p.m.
Bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy a movie on a beautiful summer evening. Concessions and treats will be available for purchase during the movie.

Goshen Parks and Recreation also offers additional fun summer programming, from summer camps to boat rentals, throughout the summer months.
Starting Monday, May 27, you can rent boats (kayaks, canoes, pedal boats, and paddle boards) at Fiddler Pond for $10 per hour up to two hours. Fishing poles are also available to rent for $2 per hour. If you’re looking for a longer adventure, rent a canoe to take down the Elkhart River, starting at Shanklin Park and ending at Elkhart County’s OxBow Park.
If you’re still looking for summer activities for kids, the parks and recreation department offers Art Camp for kids 6 to 12 from June 17th to 20th, Sailing Camp for 8 to 18–year–olds from June 24th to 28th, and Soccer Camp for kids 6 to 10 from June 10th to June 13th.
Looking to get active this summer? Attend a Zumba Class at Pringle Park every Monday, Wednesday, or Sunday, or reserve a pickleball court for a couple of hours.

The City of Goshen introduced a new ordinance, Ordinance 5185, during the City Council meeting on Monday, May 13, to address chronic disorderly properties. The ordinance passed unanimously on first reading. The ordinance will be considered for second and final reading at a later City Council meeting.

The City of Goshen introduced a new ordinance, Ordinance 5184, during the City Council meeting on Monday, May 13, to address golf carts and off-road vehicles on city roads. The ordinance was tabled at the council meeting to allow the creation of a task force to further develop the ordinance before being reconsidered at later City Council meetings.

Norfolk Southern has begun rail replacement ahead of schedule in Goshen. Closures will continue working West to East and North to South. Norfolk-Southern’s crews anticipate re-opening each crossing the same day it is closed. See the table below for an estimated schedule of closures for this week.

Work will continue in approxitmately one month for NS crews to finish paving.
Crossings at College Ave., Plymouth Ave., Reynolds Street, Purl Street, Greene Road, and Peddlers Village should be open by the end of the day Monday, May 6. Crossings between College Avenue and Plymouth may be closed until Tuesday, May 7. If possible try to utilize Kercher Road and Lincolnway East / US 33 for travel Monday evening but expect delays on Kercher Road Tuesday. Madison Ave will also be open Monday and Tuesday as an alternative route.
