Mayor Jeremy Stutsman is creating a flood recovery donation line with the purpose of financially aiding residential property owners with damage repair costs.
The decision to create the line came after several community members expressed their wish to donate money to help flood victims, and after receiving knowledge that many homeowners affected by the floods did not have flood insurance, or companies are denying their claims.
“It is unknown at this time how long, if at all, it will take for our community to see any funds from state or federal agencies,” Mayor Stutsman said. “I think it is important to do whatever we can now to help with recovery costs of our residents.”
Mayor Stutsman is appointing a Goshen Flood Recovery Fund Committee to help administer the funds. The Committee will be composed of five voting members who are not City employees or officials, and two non-voting City members who will be appointed for financial oversight.
While guidelines are still being created, anyone interested in donating can do so by making a check to the City of Goshen 2018 Flood Recovery Fund. These can be mailed or dropped off at Goshen City Hall or any Interra Credit Union branch. Donations will also be accepted online at www.goshenindiana.org. The ability to donate online will start March 1, 2018).
Of the money donated, 100 percent of the funds will be sent directly to the Flood Recovery Fund, with the exception of 3 percent for online donations. The City will cover all administrative costs. More will be posted on the City website, www.goshenindiana.org.
