The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that S.R. 119 is scheduled for an asphalt resurface on or after Friday, Aug. 24, weather permitting.

Work on the project, to be completed by INDOT contractor Phend & Brown, includes the closure of the road in three segments. The road closures will allow the contractors to resurface both lanes of the road at the same time.

S.R. 119 is planned to be closed in the following areas, consecutively in the order below:

  1. Between C.R. 40 and C.R. 17
  2. Between C.R. 44 and C.R. 40
  3. Between C.R. 17 to C.R. 19

Each segment of the roadway will be closed for up to 35 days, and county road intersections will remain open to allow crossing of S.R. 119. The official state detour for the closure on S.R. 119 will be S.R. 15 to U.S. 6 to S.R. 19 and work on the project is expected to continue through early December, weather permitting.

The contract was awarded to Phend & Brown for $6.5 million and includes the resurface of S.R. 15 in Elkhart County in 2019.
