CITY OF GOSHEN TAKING PREVENTATIVE MEASURES IN LIGHT OF FORECAST

The City of Goshen is monitoring forecasts from the National Weather Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Based on their forecasts the City is taking preventative measures to efficiently respond and keep the public informed.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting two inches of rain in the next 36 hours, with a potential crest at the Elkhart River of 10 feet. The river reached a historic level of 12.49 feet on Wednesday, Feb. 21. City staff is reviewing past river levels and doing our best to predict where you might see water again.

  • Indiana Avenue, Plymouth Avenue and Denver Street could all see potential water on the street according to current predictions.
  • Huron Street, Lincoln Avenue and Pike Street should remain open, based on our current data.
  • Chicago Avenue between Pike Street and Lincoln Avenue could be underwater again, according to the current forecast.
  • Creekside Mobile Home Park should be watching forecasts closely and may need to be evacuated again.

The Goshen street department will be open for sandbags and will place all materials in an area residents can get to any time of the day. They are located at 475 Steury Ave., Goshen.

RESIDENTS: If you evacuated before, and would feel more comfortable evacuating again, please call 911 sooner rather than later to help ensure safety and efficiency of first responders. Grace Community Church is still open and accommodating residents as a shelter. You can reach the church at 533.7546.
