Mayor’s Arts Council Scholarship Award, Encouraging Art in Community

Mayor’s Arts Council has $1,000 scholarship dollars to give away in August.

The new Goshen Mayor’s Arts Council Scholarship Award is being offered to full-time and part-time students currently enrolled in an accredited degree program at any college or university in the United States, as well as to Advanced Placement high school students and post-graduate or non-traditional students.

This $1,000 scholarship award is meant to inspire and further the arts in the civic environment. Applicants must have a strong connection to Goshen, Indiana, and also must be actively pursuing advanced education in either the visual or performing arts.

Applications can be picked up at the Electric Brew in Goshen, the Goshen Public Library or downloaded directly from goshenindiana.org/mac. Priority for the award is based on both need and potential for success.

Scholarship applicants will have to work quickly to have their submissions reviewed before the August 31, 2017 deadline. A winner will be announced in Mid-September.

Mayor’s Arts Council is also hosting regular artist meet ups from 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. every fourth Monday of the month. The event location will change each month highlighting different artist studios throughout Goshen.

“These meet ups allow artists the space and time needed to have a continued dialogue about art,” said Jonathan Reuel, a visual artist in residence at the Hawks Artist Studios and meet up attendee. “It’s so good to get artists talking about things that matter.”

Professional artist studios with interest in hosting the event may contact the Mayor’s Arts Council by email at MayorsArtsCouncil@gmail.com. All are welcome and encouraged to r.s.v.p. on the Mayor’s Arts Council Facebook page. There is no cost for this event.
