2024 Fall Fire Hydrant Flushing begins Monday, September 30

The City of Goshen Utilities will begin flushing fire hydrants for the fall season starting Monday, September 30 through Friday, October 4.

From Monday, September 30, through Friday, October 4, the Goshen Water & Sewer Department will be flushing hydrants from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the upper-pressure zone, which is everything northeast of U.S. 33 and the Norfolk Southern tracks

Also, on Monday, September 30, crews will start nighttime flushing from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will begin at Madison Street & 10th Street, heading south to the city limits and between the Norfolk Southern tracks and U.S. 33 to the city limits south.

On Tuesday, October 1, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., workers will flush hydrants between Cottage Avenue and 10th Street between the Norfolk Southern tracks heading south to the city limits and between Lincolnway East and the Norfolk Southern tracks heading east to the city limits.

On Wednesday, October 2, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., workers will flush hydrants between Pike Street and the city limits south and between N Greene Road and Cottage Avenue.

On Thursday, October 3, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., workers will be flushing between Norfolk Southern and the city limits to the south and between N Greene Road and the city limits to the west.

The Water & Sewer Department asks that you avoid doing laundry on the day the flushing is close to your home due to the rust that is being removed from the water mains. If you do have a problem with your laundry, please call the Water & Sewer Department; they will have some special soap for you.

Goshen’s 2024 Trick or Treat hours announced

The City of Goshen’s 2024 suggested trick-or-treat hours are Thursday, October 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

For trick-or-treaters:

  • Kindly adhere to the designated trick-or-treat hours.
  • Visit homes with lit porch lights only, and never enter unfamiliar houses.

For treat providers and adults:

  • If you prefer not to participate, kindly switch off your porch lights.
  • Motorists, exercise caution by driving slowly and staying alert for pedestrians.
  • Ensure your driveway and porch are well-lit, and remove any potential tripping hazards from walkways when distributing treats.

August brush pick-up begins next week

Monthly brush pick-up will begin next week on Monday, August 26th.

During scheduled brush collections, the Street Department will make only one pass through the city to pick up brush. Please have your brush by the front curb, but not in the street, by that first day at 7 a.m. Brush will not be picked up in alleys. The piles of brush should be trash-free. Crews cannot access the piles if blocked by vehicles.

The final summer brush pick-up will begin on Monday, September 30, 2024.

Maple City Walk set for September 14

The City of Goshen’s Parks and Recreation Department will host the 16th Annual Maple City Walk on Saturday, September 14. Participants have the choice of a marathon, half-marathon, and 10K as they enjoy a beautiful walk or run along the Maple City Greenway and Pumpkinvine Nature Trail. 

Day of check-in and registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on September 14 and the walk begins at 8 a.m. Participants are allowed 5 hours to complete the 13.1-mile course along the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail and 9 hours to complete the 26-mile course.

Registration for the event can be completed online or in person at the Goshen Parks and Recreation Administrative Office, 524 E. Jackson Street.

Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Water and light refreshments will be available at the halfway point.

Goshen Parks and Recreation’s Touch a Truck returns to Shanklin Park

The Goshen Parks and Recreation Department’s Touch a Truck event will return to Shanklin Park on Saturday, August 24, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This event is free for all ages.

Goshen’s Touch a Truck event offers children the opportunity to touch, climb, and explore the City’s equipment, trucks, and other vehicles. City departments that will bring vehicles include the Goshen Fire Department, the Goshen Police Department, and the Streets Department. The event will also feature staff representing various City departments, giving the community a chance to meet and talk with them.

A sensory-free time has been slotted for 9-10 a.m. for individuals with sensory impairments.

INDOT to begin paving on South Main, between Gra-Roy and Lafayette Streets.

Upcoming Lincoln Avenue Closure

Lincoln Avenue will be closed from Rock Run Creek to east of Olive Street, starting this Monday, August 12th. We expect the road to remain closed until sometime in November. Niblock Excavating will be installing water main, storm sewer, and replacing utility services as part of the City’s Steury Avenue and Lincoln Avenue reconstruction project.

The City of Goshen Board of Public Works and Safety is soliciting sealed offers for the purchase of two (2) service bodies to be mounted on single axle chassis for use by the City of Goshen’s Water & Sewer Department. The Board of Public Works and Safety is hereinafter referred to as “City”.

The Specification Documents may be obtained from the City of Goshen’s Clerk-Treasurer’s Office, 202 South Fifth St., Goshen, IN 46528 or the City of Goshen’s current Bidding Opportunities portal at https://goshenindiana.org/bidding-opportunities.  The City shall not be responsible for documents obtained from any other source.

Offers shall be submitted in accordance with the Instructions to Quoters and all contractual terms and conditions that are included in the Specification Documents. In addition to price, offers will be evaluated based on whether the Quoter is responsible, and if the Quoter’s offer is responsive.

Offers shall be filed with the City of Goshen Clerk-Treasurer’s Office, 202 South Fifth Street, Goshen, IN 46528 until 3:45 p.m. August 29, 2024 at which time all offers received will be taken to the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting to be publicly opened and read aloud. The Board meeting will be held in City Court Room/Council Chambers at the Goshen Police & Court Building, 111 East Jefferson Street, Goshen.

The City of Goshen Board of Public Works and Safety reserves the right to reject any and all offers, delete any portions thereof, to waive any informalities or irregularities in any bid received, and to award a contract, consistent with Indiana law, to the lowest responsible and responsive Quoter. Award of contract is contingent on the availability of funds.
