MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR ON FLOODING

Constant rainfall combined with melting snow over the last few days have led to flooding in various areas throughout the city. The Elkhart River is at about 11.92 ft. as of 9 a.m., surpassing the previous record of 11.9 ft. Many roads are closed due to flooding.

Creekside Mobile Home Park has been evacuated due to the flooding.

City offices are closed, but all essential personnel has remained to work today. (If you have an emergency please call 911).

Sandbags are available at the Street Department,  475 Steury Ave.

Mayor Jeremy Stutsman is asking residents to help out by doing the following:

  • Please do not let children play with or go into the water. Due to the amount of water, currents are forming, and can pill the children into an open manhole. Water will also likely have bacteria.
  • Please don’t drive through high water. Don’t drive around barricades placed by the City –  they are placed there for safety.
  • The Utilities Department is asking residents to conserve water as much as possible.
  • Please report areas you see are getting high water.
