Photos: Goshen’s First Kerry’s Kids’ and Teen Mud Run Delivers Mud, Color and Smiles

Goshen families dove into a day of messy fun Saturday, July 12, at the inaugural Kerry’s Kids’ and Teen Mud Run at Pringle Park.

The obstacle course featured a foam-filled tarp slide into a mud pit, followed by color powder, tire pits, a wooden climbing structure, and a mud crawl. As reported in The Goshen News, the final stretch included a pool noodle tunnel and a swim tube section before kids crossed the finish line to earn a medal. Some participants ran the course more than once, with lifeguards on hand to assist those stuck in the mud.

Six students completed the inaugural year of the RedHawk Fire Academy, a partnership between the City and Goshen Community Schools.

The City of Goshen and Goshen Community Schools launched the RedHawk Fire Academy program in 2024 after a conversation between Mayor Gina Leichty and Fire Chief Anthony Powell. That exchange sparked a bold vision. They set out to give students hands-on training and a path to certification and careers in emergency services.

“I feel like learning these skill has improved my life,” said senior Tyler Barkey said. “I definitely recommend it for anybody else.”
