Celebrating Women Artists

Name: Lee Bergey

Medium: Mixed Media

Sales Location: artistleebergey.wixsite.com/lee-bergey

Contact Information: ArtistLeeBergey@protonmail.com, Instagram: @artistleebergey

Artist Info: I have been creating since I was young, and I graduated from Goshen College in 2023 with a degree in Art. My portfolio is primarily mixed media work, focusing on themes of nature, environmentalism, folk art, and religion. I explore my own experience of the world through my art, as well as the issues that I see around me - in Indiana, where I live now, and in Pennsylvania, where I grew up.

Name: Melanie Helmuth

Medium: Ceramics

Sales Location: Goshen Clay Guild, Soapy Gnome, Elephant Bar

Contact Information: mhelmuthpottery@gmail.com, Website: melaniehelmuthpottery.com, Instagram: mhelmuth.pottery

Artist Info: After just a couple of high school and college pottery classes, Melanie was interested in continuing to work with clay. A few classes at the Goshen Clay Artists Guild led her to become a member, which is where she works on most of her pieces. She has always enjoyed creating and working with her hands, so pottery has been a perfect fit as a creative outlet. Melanie enjoys creating pottery for fun but also participates in various art shows and sells her gnomes and soap dishes at Soapy Gnome and her Elephant Mugs at Elephant Bar, both in downtown Goshen.

Name: Sadie Misiuk

Medium: Ceramics

Sales Location: 2211 W Berkey Ave, Goshen

Contact Information: sadiemisiuk@gmail.com, smisiukceramics.com, www.facebook.com/sadiemisiukceramics, www.instagram.com/sadiemisiukceramics

Artist Info: Sadie Misiuk graduated from Central Michigan University in 2014 and moved to Goshen, Indiana in 2015. She has been collaborating with the clay community here ever since. Her work consists of utilitarian ware fired in an atmospheric firing; she prefers to fire in a wood kiln or a soda kiln. A wood fire lasts anywhere between 36-95 hours, with a team of about 8-12 people taking shifts to keep the fire going.  The wood ash flies through the kiln to create a natural ash glaze and that’s where all the uniqueness comes into play. The flame and direction of airflow will never be the same in each firing!  The glaze reacts to the soda to cause a different glaze effect! Sadie’s studio is here in Goshen and hosts a couple of open house studio sales each year, along with opening her studio up for the Michiana Pottery Tour at the end of September every year!

Her work can be found in private and public installations across Northern Indiana.
