RedHawk Fire Academy

A partnership between the City of Goshen and Goshen Community Schools

The RedHawk Fire Academy offers Goshen High School students hands-on training in fire and emergency medical services. This program prepares students for careers in public safety by providing certification pathways, practical experience, and leadership development.

Launched in 2024, the academy is housed at the Chandler Career and Technical Center, located at 419 S. 8th St., Goshen, IN 46526. This initiative is a collaboration between the City of Goshen and Goshen Community Schools, with instructional support from the Goshen Fire Department.

What Students Learn

Over two years, students receive classroom instruction and field-based training in key areas of fire and EMS work, including:

  • Fire behavior and suppression techniques
  • Hose handling and ladder operations
  • Emergency medical services (EMS) fundamentals
  • Incident command and scene management
  • Teamwork, leadership, and communication

Students also train at the Goshen Fire Department’s Danny Sink Training Center, participating in live drills and gaining experience with real firefighting equipment and scenarios.

Certifications and Outcomes

Students who complete the full program may earn industry-recognized certifications that prepare them for direct entry into public safety careers or further education. Some graduates pursue employment with local fire departments or continue training through institutions like Ivy Tech Community College.
