GOSHEN, Ind. – Goshen will conduct a tornado siren test on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 10:15 a.m. as part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week.
Officials will delay the test to Wednesday, March 12, if weather conditions require postponement.
Indiana has recorded over 1,400 tornadoes since 1950, causing more than 5,000 injuries and 300 deaths.
The 1965 Palm Sunday outbreak devastated the Goshen-Elkhart area, producing F4 and F5 tornadoes that killed 271 people and injured more than 1,500. Twin funnels struck the Midway Trailer Court, destroying nearly every home and causing mass casualties. The outbreak remains Indiana’s deadliest tornado disaster.
Flooding also poses risks. Indiana experienced 76 flood-related events in 2022. Goshen’s 2018 flood caused major road closures and property damage.
State and local agencies, including the Goshen Fire Department, support Severe Weather Preparedness Week to help residents plan for emergencies.
In preparation of Tuesday’s tornado siren test, officials urge residents to review emergency plans and identify shelter locations before severe weather strikes.
