GOSHEN, Ind. — Resilient competitors powered through a 500-yard swim, 15.8-mile bike ride and two-lap 5K run Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025 during the Rock the Quarry Triathlon and Mile Swim. The ninth annual event that started and finished at Fidler Pond drew athletes from across the region.
There was also a mile-long open-water race.
Nearly 150 athletes braved muggy August heat to compete, with crowds lining the pond’s shore to cheer each finisher. Fidler Pond’s transformation from former quarry to race venue highlighted the work of Goshen Parks & Recreation, whose team coordinated every detail from safety to course layout.
Simon Derstine won the men’s sprint triathlon in 1:07:36. Heather Schuh took first place in the women’s division in 1:15:03. In the Mile Swim, Ayla Madara claimed the women’s title in 23:48, while Calvin Hitt won the men’s division in 24:09. Complete race results are available at RaceTec Results.
“This event reflects the commitment of our athletes, the support of our community and the hard work of our Parks and Recreation staff,” Mayor Gina Leichty said. “It’s inspiring to see our friends and neighbors push themselves and encourage others toward such great personal accomplishments. Together, they make Rock the Quarry a fun and memorable day at Fidler Pond.”
