Photos: Goshen’s First Kerry’s Kids’ and Teen Mud Run Delivers Mud, Color and Smiles

GOSHEN, Ind. — Goshen families dove into a day of messy fun Saturday, July 12, at the inaugural Kerry’s Kids’ and Teen Mud Run at Pringle Park.

The obstacle course featured a foam-filled tarp slide into a mud pit, followed by color powder, tire pits, a wooden climbing structure, and a mud crawl. As reported in The Goshen News, the final stretch included a pool noodle tunnel and a swim tube section before kids crossed the finish line to earn a medal. Some participants ran the course more than once, with lifeguards on hand to assist those stuck in the mud.

“We just wanted to create a new family fun event to keep the community engaged while we have the Kerry’s Kids and Teens Triathlon on pause, and it will be back next year,” Kim Stephens, recreation coordinator for Goshen Parks and Recreation, told The Elkhart Truth. “As a team we had open discussions about what would be a fun family event and we kind of just all came up with it together. It keeps them physically fit and engaged, it’s great for spectators, it’s great to bring awareness to Pringle Park and the amenities we have here.”

The Goshen Parks & Recreation Department used at least 16 tons of dirt for the course, that will be repurposed for other park projects.

Created in memory of Kerry Finley, a beloved local educator and youth advocate, the event promotes active play and community spirit. Families also enjoyed food trucks, music, and yard games throughout the day.
