GOSHEN, Ind. – As families across Elkhart County face higher costs and reduced Food Stamp benefits, food insecurity in Goshen continues to rise. Local food pantries are reporting a significant increase in demand for help as more residents seek support to meet basic needs.
The Salvation Army in Goshen, which typically serves around 20 households per week, recently assisted nearly half that number in a single day. Many of those seeking support had gone two or three years without needing assistance. At The Window, staff report similar increases, especially before weekends, as more families turn to community resources to make ends meet.
“Our community is facing real challenges,” said a representative from The Salvation Army. “We are doing everything we can to support those who walk through our doors.”
Addressing food insecurity in Goshen
The City of Goshen recognizes that many local families are experiencing hardship this season and encourages residents who are able to donate food, hygiene supplies, or funds to support the organizations meeting these growing needs.
