Alert: East Lincoln Avenue open in time for holiday travel

GOSHEN, Ind. — East Lincoln Avenue reopening took place Wednesday afternoon after months of construction that improved roadway safety, pedestrian access, and stormwater drainage along a key east-west corridor.

The reopening marks the end of Phase 1 of the project between Rock Run Creek and Steury Avenue. Crews from Niblock Excavating will keep the roadway open through winter. Work will resume in spring, when contractors close Lincoln Avenue again to continue reconstruction east of Steury Avenue toward La Raza Indiana in the 900 block of East Lincoln near the wetland.

Dustin Sailor, Director of Public Works, said the progress reflects a significant step forward after a challenging construction season.

“We appreciate the community’s patience,” Sailor said. “This stretch of roadway now provides a safer route for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians.”

Phase 1 of the East Lincoln Avenue reconstruction project is now complete and open to traffic.

East Lincoln Avenue reopening improvements and benefits

The first phase adds several long-term improvements, including:

• A safer roadway design
• A new sidewalk to support walking and biking
• A curb-and-gutter roadway to improve safety and traffic flow
• Upgraded stormwater infrastructure to reduce standing water
• A center left-turn lane to reduce delays and improve turning movements
• Intersection upgrades for more predictable traffic patterns

Drivers will also notice temporary channelizing barricades east of Olive Street to Steury Avenue. The barriers direct motorists from the widened roadway to the existing narrower pavement. The final transition will occur in the 2026 construction phase.

City officials planned the early reopening to restore direct access ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

“This gives residents a smoother and more convenient route across the city during the holiday weekend,” Sailor said.

The project is one of several major roadway and infrastructure improvements underway across Goshen designed to modernize systems and support long-term mobility.

Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully as traffic adjusts to the new roadway layout. Stay up to date with Goshen road closures HERE.
