East Lincoln Avenue is closed at Blackport Drive today Thursday, October 8, 2020, to allow NIPSCO crews to work on a broken gas line.
The line was broken during construction for the new water line along Lincoln Avenue. After review of the broken gas line by NIPSCO, it was determined no evacuations are needed at this time.
However, NISPCO crews do not want traffic between N. 20th and Abshire Park. Local traffic still has access. NIPSCO estimates the road will reopen late this evening. The portion of the road closed will not reopen until midnight.
The road closure does not affect eastbound traffic, as it is already being detoured. The detour for westbound traffic is Blackport Drive to Monroe Street to Logan Street and back to Lincoln Avenue.
