GOSHEN — Goshen’s drinking water is safe, clean, and meets all federal and state health standards, according to the 2025 Consumer Confidence Report.
The Goshen Water Utility tests water monthly to ensure safety. In 2024, no violations were found for regulated contaminants.
The Utility collected more than 30 samples each month. Tests covered bacteria, metals, disinfectants, and by-products, with results reviewed by state and federal agencies.
Where Goshen’s Drinking Water Comes From
Goshen sources its drinking water from wells in a glacial plain known as the Kankakee Outwash and Lacustrine Plain.
Two groundwater treatment plants serve the city. The North Plant uses six wells. The Kercher Plant uses two. Combined, they can produce over 11 million gallons of water per day.
Water is treated and tested to meet EPA and Indiana Department of Environmental Management standards. The City also tracks water line materials and inspects wellhead protection areas.
In 2023, the City completed a systemwide water service line inventory. No lead service lines were found.
Some older homes have galvanized pipes connected by short “gooseneck” lead fittings. These do not require removal, but the City is replacing them for free in eligible areas.
