Lincoln Avenue and Steury Avenue Reconstruction and Drainage Improvements

Lincoln Avenue from Rock Run Creek to 950 E Lincoln Avenue, and
on Steury Avenue from Lincoln Avenue to Herman Street

Extensive utility and roadway improvements in East Goshen including sidewalks on both sides of Lincoln Avenue

  • Replace aging roadways
  • Alleviate traffic congestion
  • Ensure dependable water supply for East Goshen
  • Improve pedestrian mobility
  • Support existing heavy truck traffic
  • Improve drainage

The project will involve replacing the water main from Logan Street to Steury Avenue, and along Steury Avenue all the way north to Herman Street. The roadway will be completely reconstructed with curb-and-gutter, wider approaches at intersections, and a smoother “S” curve on Steury Avenue. Sidewalks along both sides of Lincoln Avenue will improve conditions for those traveling on foot. A new stormwater system will improve drainage, and new water and sanitary services will be constructed to each house within the project area. Roadway re-surfacing will also be extended all the way east to Blackport Drive. Niblock Excavating was awarded the 2-year construction contract for approximately $9,100,000. The project is funded through Goshen’s Redevelopment Commission.

Construction along Lincoln Avenue will occur in 2025 and extend into the fall and winter shutdown. Work will continue in 2026 along Steury Avenue.

  • Lincoln Avenue will remain closed during the Elkhart County Fair
  • Blackport Drive is open to truck traffic while Lincoln Avenue is closed
  • Access for businesses and residents within the project area will be maintained, but there will be times when normal access is interrupted
  • School bus routes, mail delivery, waste pickup, and brush collection will be altered
