Student Airplane Build Kicks Off
at Goshen Airport
Local high school students will assemble a full-size airplane this fall through a new aviation education program at Goshen Municipal Airport.
The STEM in Aviation Youth (STAY) Indiana program launched Saturday, Aug. 16, in partnership with The Boys & Girls Club of Elkhart County, Goshen Community Schools, Viewrail and the airport. Students will build a Zenith 750 Cruzer aircraft under the guidance of experienced mechanics and pilots.

The City of Goshen and Goshen Community Schools launched the RedHawk Fire Academy program in 2024 after a conversation between Mayor Gina Leichty and Fire Chief Anthony Powell. That exchange sparked a bold vision. They set out to give students hands-on training and a path to certification and careers in emergency services.
“I feel like learning these skill has improved my life,” said senior Tyler Barkey said. “I definitely recommend it for anybody else.”
