MAYOR STUTSMAN ISSUES STATEMENT ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING

On Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 9:27 a.m., officers from the Goshen Police Department were dispatched to the area near US 33 and CR 38 to a report of shots fired at that location.

During an encounter with the suspect, GPD officers discharged their weapons. Two individuals were injured, one of whom sustained fatal wounds. Another individual was taken to Goshen Hospital for treatment to their injuries. No officers were injured during this incident.

Mayor Jeremy Stutsman issued the following statement with regards to the officer-involved shooting:

“As is standard practice, the Indiana State Police will be conducting and independent investigation of this morning’s events. We will cooperate fully with the State Police to insure that they can conduct a fair and impartial investigation.

“The event is a reminder of the risk our police officers take each and every day to protect our community. Thanks to the good work of the men and women of the Goshen Police Department, Goshen remains a safe city and these types of incidents are a rare occurrence.”
